The Gospel
The word gospel means "good news." It is good news that God has made a way for sinful people to be forgiven and restored to Him through the life, death, and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ.
God
God is the holy, sovereign, and loving Creator of all things. He created us in His image to know Him, glorify Him, and enjoy Him forever. He is perfectly righteous, just, and worthy of all worship and obedience.
Scripture: Genesis 1:1, 26–27; Psalm 100:3; Isaiah 6:3; Revelation 4:11
Humanity
Every person has sinned against God by rejecting His authority and choosing their own way of living. Because of sin, we are separated from God, spiritually dead, and deserving of His righteous judgment. No amount of good works, religious activity, or personal effort can remove our guilt or reconcile us to God.
Scripture: Genesis 3:1–19; Psalm 51:5; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10–12, 23; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1–3
Christ
Because of His great love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He lived the perfect life we could never live, died on the cross as the substitute for sinners, bearing God’s wrath in our place, and rose bodily from the grave on the third day, defeating sin and death. He then ascended into heaven, where He is now seated at the right hand of the Father, reigning as Lord and interceding for His people. Jesus alone is the Savior, and there is no other way to be reconciled to God.
Scripture: John 1:1–5, 14; Mark 10:45; Romans 5:6–11; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11; Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34; Ephesians 1:20–23; Acts 4:12
Our Response
God commands all people everywhere to repent (or turn away) from their sins and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is by God's grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone—not by our works. Those who trust in Christ are forgiven, declared righteous before God, adopted into His family, indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and begin a lifelong journey of growing in Christ.
Scripture: Mark 1:15; John 3:16–18; Acts 2:38; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9–13; Ephesians 2:8–10; Titus 3:4–7
Our Hope
The gospel is not only the good news of forgiveness but also the promise of a transformed life now and eternal life with God forever. Jesus is building His church, and one day He will return to judge the living and the dead, make all things new, and dwell forever with His redeemed people. Until that day, believers live with confident hope, making disciples and proclaiming the good news of Christ to the world.
Scripture: Matthew 28:18–20; Romans 8:18–39; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 1:6; Titus 2:11–14; Revelation 21:1–5; Revelation 22:1–5
